Right im fairly sure i know the answer to this but i thought i'd check, looks like the cold snap has killed my battery so whilst at work today i thought i'd look up a new battery.

in the notes section, it states "vehicles with on board computer will need system reset by bmw for vehicle to start"

Is this whats commonly know as bo**ocks?

not bollocks - what they mean is if you have the code function enabled on the OBC, if you disconnect/reconnect the battery (like a thief might) the OBC might decide that it is being stolen, and stop the fuel pump from working.

If you don't have the code function set, it shouldn't be a problem... :D

ps IMHO Bosch Silver is the battery of Kings

I've seen OBCs (and other computer typr equipment) become thouroughly confused by the pulsing low voltage when trying to start a car with a duff battery, but nothing that can't be sorted by dissconnecting the battery for a short while.

cheers people. i changed the battery last week and it was fine. i dont have an obc so maybe thats why i had no problems.

Thought it was best to check, rather than coming back here saying "i have just replaced my battery and now it wont start!"

Thanks again
