as some of you know i'm fitting a 3.5 M30 in my tourer winkeye

i have a scorpion M3 exhaust for the conversion (yeah, i know it's naff for the M3 but it should be fine on the M30!!!). the hangers are different for the M3 and i'm hoping to replicate them on the tourer for a 'factory' look.

does anyone have any underside pics of the M3, especially the exhaust hanger at the rear? is this a bolt-on part?

this is the mount on the backbox:

this is the area of the car that doesn't have one!!!:

also, there are more mounts further back that the 325i doesn't have, these are shown here:

how do these connect?

any help would be cooool! cheers! :thumb:

Rear box uses a bodge up of old silencer straps

in front of the rear box has one out of two mounts

(not pictured) E34 gear box exhaust hanger

Bit of a lash up but it doesn't knock

cool, cheers for that.

i reckon that there must be a way of sourcing the M3 backbox hanger (chassis side) but the parts bloke at my local BMW dealer couldn't even find it but it looks like it should use that bolt in the chassis rail...

maybe i'm being a tart!

so the stock 325i hanger on the subframe fits one of the M3 mounts? that's one sorted then!

i've got to find a E34 gearbox mounted hanger from somewhere as the auto on i got with the 735i was both wrong and rusted so much i pulled it off by hand!

You might be able to use a 325 gear box hanger if you can't find an M30 one ?

that looks like the kiddie. i have that exhaust part (1st pic on my post, 2nd on yours) but i need the part that that rubber hangs from, if you know what i mean. the chassis side in other words.

it's hard to make out what goes where on that ETK pic... hopefully a piccy from simon will help identify the part. it looke like item 21 would fit the rubber maybe? could item 21 somehow fix to item 15 and 17? if so, i haven't a clue how it would then fix to my chassis rail!

i wonder why bmw changed this, seems like they made a load more work for no real reason!

Might not be exactly the same, but on my 320iS you could have fitted a complete 325 system to the car (although the rear pipes were different), so the hangars must be the same as an M3 as I fitted a complete M3 system to it instead. The only difference being the back box tailpipe design.

HTH

But it does look like you've got something missing on your rear chassis legs to hold the exhaust section on with.

the 325i exhaust uses two clamp on band type hangers, one on each side of the backbox. the M3 has one behind the rear panel, above/between the tailpipes.

normally everything german is so logical, not this!

The bracket at the back of the car looks like it's welded on to the car, I'll try and get a closer look.
