Hi,

I'm looking to get refurbished a rear subframe that I've bought to replace my existing cracked one, as it has some surface rust/peeling paint on it. I'd like to put a fresh one on to tidy up the underside of the car.

Does anyone on here know of someone who does such refurbishing if I send them my subframe, or someone who will PX a subframe for an unfurnished one if I pay for the service?

IIRC there was a member on here called Dan who does this, does anyone know of his username so I can drop him a PM?

Thanks!

DanThe is the man you want. You may want to invest in one of his beams modified for adjustable toe and camber while you're at it.

Thanks! I remember now it was DanThe!

What is the benefit of the modified beam with adjustable toe and camber over a standard beam?

You can adjust the camber and toe. Helpful if you track your car or lower it and need to correct the camber this causes

Camber decreases (and toe changes as well to a smaller degree) as the rear suspension compresses, and since most E30 owners prefer the suspension to be at least a little lower than BMW intended, so the adjustable beam allows you to reset the suspension angles to what they should be for optimum performance and reduced tyre wear, as well as compensating for any bent trailing arms, (which are by no means unusual).

Isn't it the other way around? I always thought that camber increases as the rear suspension compresses due the angle at which the trailing arms to fixed to the rear beam.

Camber decreases as the suspension compresses. It starts at just below zero, and goes more negative as the ride gets lower, which is decreasing.

If the temperature was -2 degrees and dropped to -10 degrees, you wouldn't say it had increased by 8 degrees!
Sloppy terminology is how mistakes are made.

I think it comes from where people say "you need more camber" (negative)
Or the opposite, "you need to take some camber out"

I get what you're saying Brian but i think most people understand it in the way Dan has described. It may be negative but the angle of the wheel in relation to the road has increased.

If your fridge is at -2 degrees and you want it to be at -8 do you turn it up or down?

I turn the duty cycle of the compressor up, but the temperature down.

You turn the temperature set point down, in turn the compressor runs longer until the new set point is achieved.

Quite correct. 4.1 and 3.64 are both abbreviations of 1 : 4.1 = 0.244 and 1 : 3.64 = 0.275, and 0.244 is lower than 0.275.
