As the title says peeps..next up for my beast is suspension and brake upgrades.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-Series- ... 35dde7699d

^^ ( what does it mean by "Spring loaded suspension" :? ) ^^

I'm Not planning to lower it more than 40mm as I don't want to lose the sump any time soon  Some of the speed humps / roads round my way are shocking! 8O

Mine being a cabby is there anything different or is it the same 51mm strut set-up?

I'm hopefully going to be getting some E46 rear top mounts but what Shocks do people recommend as I've heard a lot about the bilstein B4 or B6's but I've never been in a car with these installed so i don't know which is better :?

Thanx as always Peeps!

Exactly what I was thinking price- wise so I thought I'd ask..maybe I'll be the "guinea pig"

I might message them as it doesn't say cabrio or touring in the advert. .

They're firm but by no means too hard for roads use in my opinion. I'm running them with Bilstein shocks and I really like the ride quality.

there £170 ish for most but convertible and tourings are a premium.
As for the ride it could be that people have used the sportline not the pro??

Ok I've found this H & R set which works out to £173.57 from Germany which is about right for a set of saloon springs in the UK so im happy with the price:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/29633-1-H-R-F ... a#shpCntId

Now this is the question I have to ask, which are better H & R or eibachs? or is this a 318is vs 325i debate? :chuckle:

I've never had either fitted to any of my cars so advice is needed please!

Hey mate, I also run eibachs with billies, no problem here for road use. Other than that I would say h&r which are a little firmer but still good for road.

Hey Marc, cheers man! Which billies did you go for the b6 or b8's?

I done ALOT of researching and asking my mates their preferences and there really isn't much in it so I went with the eibachs as they sound more comfortable for normal road use..doubt I will ever get it on the track and if I did I will think about it then lol

They sound stiff enough for what I need them for! Who knows maybe ill try some H&R's in the future so I can compare them myself 8)

I have eibach/bilsteins on my e30 M3 (30mm drop) and I find them too hard for anything but a smooth road. They are newly installed with about 2000km on them... Fantastic in the corners and on the highway but harsh on city roads...I will probably be refitting OEM springs (but keeping the billies) to get a smoother ride..

Sorry to muddy the waters..

The waters were never clear my friend :chuckle:

I've heard so many contradicting statements its unreal! 1 person says eibachs are soft..the next say they are hard.. 1 person says they dont drop enough..another say it drops it too much lol

I've made my decision to go with the eibachs and I will find out for myself now..What billies did you go with?

thanks for your advice! :D

If they are yellow Bilsteins ie B6's or B8's then it will be those that are making the ride stiff not the springs.

Incidentally I have the same combo on both my E30 M3 and 325i and find them ok on the notoriously poor English roads.
Obviously if you hit a pot hole directly you're going to know about it but the simple thing is dont hit them.

As previously stated thanks for all the advice peeps! :thumb:

Now I need to make my mind up as to what Bilsteins to go with B6 or B8's

Is there a very noticeable difference between the two?

I think the problem is more with the reduced spring height than the dampers.. The spring is what absorbs the shock, the dampener's job is to dampen the oscillations.. A shorter spring has less travel and requires a firmer damper... I believe mine are B6's - they came as a combo called the B12 Sports kit and were not labelled. I originally bought them for the 318iS I am rebuilding but when I bought the M3 a few months ago I decided to use them on her instead.. Now, I am ordering some B4's for my 318iS and will be blasting and painting the original M3 springs and re-using them on the M3 to see if the ride is more "compliant"... I will swap the eibach springs to the 318iS and next year, when my 318iS resto is complete, I will know whether I made the right decision!!

This is what the 30mm rear drop and 40mm front drop looks like on my M3..

Trust me, it's the B6's or B8's.

Change them to B4's with the eibachs and the ride will improve.

I have fitted many sets of Eibach springs with all variantions of Bilstein shocks to many customers cars and my own.

Bilstein B4s work out of the box. Adjustable shocks allow the user to adjust them so that they don't :(

But the advantage is you get the "Comfort" to where you like it when adjusted correctly.

You need to have a word with Christan Horner. Red Bull could definitely do with a suspension guru, amongst other things :)
