I'm having some trouble deciding on a spring for the front of my s38 conversion iv Googled and seen the S50 is about the same so was wondering what people have tried. It has a cheap lowering kit on atm they are utter crap might as well just have a steel bar.

Personally I would go for e30 M3 front springs, brilliant in my experience.

That's lucky as I have a new set installed in my other car might swop them over and see how it feels. I thought they might be a little soft.

my M52 with the M3 springs has the super heavy weight 6 speed box in and it's very stiff, hardly any body roll at all. Nice height also.

It was the Alpina B6 3.5S which used the M3 with A/C springs.
That was an E30 M3 with an M30 engine.

Thanks Barry, I knew it was one of them. I read it when I buying bits for my conversion so that must of been 10-12yrs ago now!bss325i wrote:It was the Alpina B6 3.5S which used the M3 with A/C springs.

The way I see it.
15kg of 106kg is 14.2%
15kg of 118kg is 12.7%
Thats quite a weight saving, especially when the weight is over the front axle and high up. Its also very possibly to get the S14 to weigh even less, but I think those weights are with ancillaries?

still doesn't quite compensate for the power differences and deliverys. Especially out on the road i'd say.

I double checked and found that almost every site said the S50 was 1-2kg heavier it's a shame it didn't have more info on the S54 would be interesting to know.

You're right Simon it doesn't, however boost an S14 and you'll soon reap the benefits.

Boosted or not, the M5x will never have the balance of an s14, my little sawing machine can see off an M5x easily (on track a˜).

When the M3 is back on the road you can borrow it for a week and see what you think!
Having also owned an M52'd E30 which happened to have full E30 M3 5 stud set up and the same Eibach/Bilstein B8 combo as my M3, there is a notciable difference.
One large 3 lane roundabout near my workshop is great for highlighting this and also the night and day difference between the M3 and my sport which also has the Eibach/B8 combo.
