1988 320i exhaust Q

I have an April 1988 320i SE.

Q: I've got a single pipe back box. I was under the impression that all 6 cylinder E30's came with twin pipe back boxes.

Am I wrong?

I see in the car service history that the back box was replaced by BMW a few years ago. The car is also INCREDIBLY quiet. I can barely hear the exhaust note.

What is going on?
