So I've got an 89 m tech 2 325i sport.
Can I put a period M badge on the front? (the m version of the m3 badge)
I'm also looking at gear shifters, I believe the car originally came with a one piece knob and boot, which I've sourced, but without the plaque on the top. Will I need one with the diagonal m stripes in the top left corner, or one with the central m logo...... Or NO m logo?
Also while we're on the topic, what's people's thoughts on the M seat badges? Wide ones on the fronts and narrower o new on the rears. The car has anthracite cloth so not too sure what they'll look like.
Thanks

IMO people will complain that its not an M3, therefore in no need of an M badge, but seriously dude, its YOUR car. If you want an M badge, M shifter or M written on your seat, then go for it! The guys that complain about stuff like that really have nothing else to worry about ;)
Just as long as you don't end up with Tyoe R or NISMO stickers on it XD That crosses the line!!
Hope that helps

you want to fit one? then fit one,
as said above, your car your choice, a sport should have one as it's in it's title, 325i M sport

if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

I won't feel bad about wearing an m badge on the grill as thats kinda what I figured, BMW made an M3 badge for the M3 and an M badge for.......
318is's?? 325i sports??
As regards to the gear knob / gear knob decal, I'm kinda looking for what SHOULD be fitted. I understand different markets had different accessories / standard equipment, but as long as I'm not fitting completely incorrect parts again, I won't feel bad.
Seat badges.... I think they look awesome, but if BMW never fitted them to anthracite sport seats, then I won't either.
p.s I was thinking about a GTI badge and a chrome eagle too, but unfortunately funds won't allow.... one thing at a time....

M-Technic badges weren't fitted by BMW, they were slapped on by some savvy Dealer types.steve_k wrote:you want to fit one? then fit one,

Neither were factory fitted as far as I am aware.

Nope, they are fine.pierce wrote:The stickers on the tech 2 kit?bab-91 wrote:M-Technic badges weren't fitted by BMW, they were slapped on by some savvy Dealer types.
A BMW Motorsport badge won't be kosher for OEM types because it's not an M car. It's a standard car that has had Tupperware nailed to it by the BMW motorsports gift store "M-Technic".
It's up to you.

Don't destroy the seats by putting a badge there. It will leave permanent holes in the seat.

Great, they're exactly the kinda replies I was looking for....
so... Ill settle for: New mtechnic stickers for the kit from pukar on here.
I will fit the grill badge. (just being honest)
I will probably fit the plaque to the gear knob with the diagonal m stripes. (just so it goes with the steering wheel)
But, I won't bother with the seat badges, thanks for the heads up about the damage!
Cheers guys

Out of interest, if no car was designed to have an "M" badge, why did BMW produce one? Or did actually get factory fitted to some cars originally?

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...

M/Motorsport cars were designed to carry the "M" badge.

It can't be that complicated!
M cars were supposed to get the Motorsport badge and M Technic cars were not!? (with the exception of the M535i?).
BARRYYYYYYYYYYY!

Hello!
The solitary ///M badge was only factory fit on E12 M535i, E28 M535i and E24 M635CSi's but they are listed on the parts catalogue for E30's as well so that to me means it was available as an accessory, in fact i have seen it listed in an accessory catalogue.
325i sports did not come factory fit with either for or rear M badges or even gear knobs. The correct gear knob is an all in one leather is plain gate pattern.
M badges and gear knobs were often fitted from new by the selling dealer. Some other models did have the gear knob with the M stripe from factory such as the 318iS and very late 320i/325iSE's.
For what it's worth, my tech 2 sport had a rear M badge from new but now has a M grill badge, M stripe gear knob and M technic sill step trims.
+1 for not using M seat pin badges, these are irreversible.

An E30 325i with some M bits is a lot more "M" than the 320D Msport.
Can hardly hurt the M image more than the 320D does.
