Hi folks,

I'm in the process of removing an aftermarket alarm which is going well but I have a question about this relay wiring.

I 'think' it is the window relay but the wiring doesn't correspond to any diagrams I can find. There is a blue/brown wire that comes from it and goes to a spade connector. This connector has two blue/brown wires and the other goes to a single white plug.

The spade connector 'was' fitted to the door microswitch but the diagrams say it should be a violet/brown wire. I found that wire and fitted it as I 'think' it should be but now don't know what the blue/brown wiring is for.

Also, while I'm asking questions, what is the box that goes next to the central locking module. The picture is from the internet. I have the plug but no box.

The box next to the central locking module is the interior light delay unit.

That is all I know sorry!

You've caught me the best part of 1000 miles away from my E30 wiring diagrams, and on the slowest internet connection since before dial up. Your pics. would take about half an hour to download, so I'm going to have to guess!
Any wire with a brown tracer is one that something will happen if you earth it, and I think that your wire is probably the one that was connected to the door switch to operate the interior light if a delay module isn't fitted, so is now spare. If the windows work with a door open and the ignition off, and the interior light delay works as it should, then don't worry about it.

Thanks Brian, Magpie (Mick) told me you were the man to speak to. I'm going to just try it an see once I get the rest of the loom back together again. I have tried hunting for the diagrams but can't find one that corresponds to the wiring colours for this relay. Where do you refer to for wiring?

Good diagrams here: http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/BMW/ , but for US spec. cars. For UK cars I strip down old looms (and modules) and work out the diagrams the hard way!

Thank you for that Will, it all makes sense now and I'm not sure I would have worked that out to make the windows power up with doors open.
