Hi All.

Hope someone can help, customer of mine has picked up Two 325i drop top cars, both on a G plate but both have different power roof systems fitted, what are the differences? One is surposed to be a motorsport car (not a M3) and one is a stock 325i with lots of bits added to make it a little quicker.

Main issue I have is most of the power roof system on one of the cars is missing, you can still open and close the roof as a seperate switch has been fitted to run the motor to open the roof cover and then close the roof by hand. This he won't be able to do has he's a wheel chair user.

I've read old posts recomending the E30 centre for this work but I don't know if there still about.

Many thanks.

Hi, I'm not the only one that might be able to help. Ben can also offer some great advice.

If the horseshoe is working on the switch, the main roof motor (in the boot on the right hand side) has either been removed, disconnected or it's broken.

Are you able to supply images of what is there (boot) and the storage compartment?

Hi all, many thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. The Macau blue car has got a hydro-electric roof on it which works (a bit!). I will post some pictures of this car once I get around to it.

The black car has got a electro-mechanical roof and this is the one that sounds like is most common and the easiest to repair. I have posted some pictures in my dropbox for you to see the amount of parts I am missing and the damage that there is.

What cables are still fitted are either broken or frayed. The main motor that you can see has got slipping gears and a broken mounting body. At the moment, all this does with the aid of two badly installed push buttons is lock and open and close the clam shell, with a little manual help as some of the gear teeth are missing. There doesn't look to be any brain for this either and the main actuator lever for the roof to go up and down is missing.

Any questions on the pictures, please let me know. If not, a list of what I am missing would be very helpful, then I can put it on the forum and at least get the parts together to get this system working for the owner.

Many thanks.

Contact Trevor, zone ID B7 as he is breaking a late electric roof equipped convertible. He has all of the parts you may need.

You virtually need every part, with the exception of the horseshoe motor, but yah isn't working properly, so you need that too.

In addition to the above, I think you need to buy the repair plate for the hood motor. Check eBay Germany for that.
