Currently running M52B28 with the standard e36 rad which has the expansion tank at the side of the rad.

Will be replacing it with a rad which doesn't have a tank on the side so can I simply attach the hose below to a seperate tank such as the ones used on the facelift M20s ??

This is the rad I have:

and was planning to use this expansion tank like this chap has here (pic from the internet)

Should that all be ok ?

Thanks

I've recently just done the exact same thing as you, and there is one thing you need tho...

A longer top hose.

as the port on the radiator is now further along compared to the standard rad ;)

Dan, Craig, do you know if the new rad would sit in the existing body mounts ok?

Cheers jim

Don't know mate, it should just slot straight in

I had to move mine slightly towards the engine because of the intercooler and the fan I'm using.

Craig, I just noticed there isn't a bleed screw on the rad, how did you bleed yours? Cheers

Bleeds via the small hose to the header tank, same as a standard M20 rad.

Yep, basically sort of the same as an M20,
so ignition on, heaters on full, hot,
pour in your coolant,
start the car and watch the air being pushed out via the small pipe coming from the top of the radiator,
to the top of the expansion bottle.

once there is a good squirt of warm/hot water, check your heaters for heat.

job done

I'm running the e36 m3 rad with the standard e30 325i tank and it's great. Cooling is miles better than the 328i rad
