Hi, I've never had any insulation/sound proofing under my bonnet. Can anyone tell me if it's a good thing to re install and if so, where to get it from? Thanks Joe

It's great. New stuff doesn't flake off into pieces

I needed some spray adhesive to get mine to stick right, but a vast improvement

Moredoor autos with small engines are cool - but my new m20b25 is awesome!

I came across a new bonnet insulation yesterday on ebay. Not sure if it's genuine or fake although it's advertised as real nla piece. I'll grab the link in a bit.

There's always been good money to be made buying parts from BMW and selling them on to mugs on ebay.87mtech27 wrote:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181756315844
£47.14 from Cotswold's two weeks ago, so a nice profit of around £28 if he finds his mug.

But is it worth having, Brian? That's what I was wondering.

I doubt it. I expect BMW fitted it for a laugh.bosers wrote:But is it worth having?

Ok, I'll put it another way.bosers wrote:Cheers Ben, your comments are always informative and never sarcastic. Very useful.
BMW thought it was worth fitting. They probably had a valid reason for it.

it does make more noise without the insulation, it also makes the surface temp of the hood/bonnet higher which is not necessarily great for the paint.

Go to BMW. I've had the OE insulation kit fitted for a couple of years now it was easy to apply & still looks like new. Cost just over £50......probably because I live in Kent!

B51.48.1.972.245 cost inc vat £45.07 from the dealer, ensure that the under bonnet it totally clean before attempting to fit the new insulation. No idea if it makes much difference to sound insulation but,it does tidy up the underside of the bonnet and makes the engine bay far tidier looking

it does make a slight difference in noise level but was advised to fit it by garage that sprayed my bonnet as it reduces heat to bonnet which could cause hazing to paint finish
