What top hose does everyone use?

Im not happy with the makeshift one i made up when putting the engine together and its time to replace it but not sure what engine used one long enough to reach?

I've taken this from the M30 WIKI:

Plumbing
Image
You'll need an E32/E34 top hose, with the built-in T-piece to the heater matrix. This T-piece goes to the bottom connecton on your heater matrix.
You need another T-piece to go in the pipe from the thermostat housing to the header tank (from an E28; BMW part number # 11 53 1 272 866). You can then connect from here to the top connection on your heater matrix.

Any help?

I did see that pic but its of no use as my head has the coolant elbow on the back so i don't need a T type hose at the front..

Just one that goes from the thermostat to the radiator, just not sure which one came long enough.. :?

Yea, Most of the conversions i can find have the pipe with the T piece going under the manifold..

I need to find a long pipe with the right diameter

This is going to be fun lol :snigger:

Has it got the correct length to reach from the thermostat housing to the radiator though. What engine size from the E28 would be the right size..im sure all engines didnt use the same length hoses..

My engine is an E34 the rad is an E28 rad

Here is my one

Image

part number 11 53 1 276 647

slightly too long but can be trimmed at the thermostat end if you really want.

What did you do about clearance around the heater pipe to the gooseneck on the back of the head. I brazed a copper plumbing elbow. Also had tomodify the gooseneck with a bit of copper pipe. Both of these mods not required if in position 1 or 2.

Now this is what i was asking for! Thank you! :notworthy: i will inquire about the pipe tomorrow!

I didnt have to modify the rear heater pipe at all mate it had enough clearance :thumb:

No build thread. Here is what I had to do with the heater pipe, I have moved my engine from Alpina position 1 to E30.de position 3 allowing front mount intercooler instead of side mounted. Unfortunately not enough room with the alpina inlet manifold for the standard pipe as it fouled on the inlet manifold

Now after our talk Graham I'm wondering if my hoses which go to the heater matrix pipes are the wrong way around :?

This is how they were when I removed them:

Image

Now i know most people dont have the pipe at the back of their cylinder heads as they have a delete plate there but can anyone shed any light as to which the correct routing is?

Thanks as always! :thumb:
