You don't see many of those original fuel vent pipes much these days
The above pic's by no way show the car in full but its pretty much like that in all the usual nasty places, botched touch up in the engine bay is no way covering up anything nasty, just me modding parts such as the abs etc the get clearance for the carbon intake, the car does however require external bodywork mainly the offside rear outer arch, lots of dents n scratches, the engine bay and i would replace the front factory "jacking" pads too if i were gonna paint it. The scuttle, roof battery tray are all original with no rust or restoration, overall it still needs a fair few quid chucked at it but is worth it because its not as bad as most!
I'm very pleased with what I purchased from Andy and that's what matters!!
No point me lying to anyone else or to myself on it being mint (this isn't a sale advert nor am I ever likely to sell it) if it was a rust bucket as it would only get eaten up before my eyes.
Still in contact with Andy for whenever I need any info or help

Cars gonna be great a good purchase with a lot of hard work done , all I was trying to do was pass on what I've learnt and having not seen them pics etc who was to know it had already been done, will be great once you've finished it and you'll enjoy doing so , you can make it as mint as you want to

I used some Kontrol crystals also bought from ebay. They are basically a bag of large salt crystals which absorb moisture. They work really well. I spead half a bag out in an old oven dish and left inside the car over winter.

I'm scared as fck of moisture so searched all over the net for tips. However the catch 22 for keeping it too dry would damage rubber and plastic components out I think.
The carpet and roof membrane stop/prevent moisture from forming /control moisture from getting on the metal , they won't dry anything out , best thing I ever put in my garage kept my car perfect all winter , not even any condensation or mould etc forming anywhere on the car
I might go for Jim's control cystrals seeing as I haven't got a garage!

Perfect
Nice tips. I'll be sure to do that next winter.polsta wrote:Another good thing to help protect from moisture is to put some old carpet down , especially over a concrete floor
And line the roof with roofing breathable membrane, it's fantastic stuff

have you got plans for the car ??
Got a little impatient and bought myself a donor car.
Its another Tech 1 which was being converted to a track car but never finished. Unfortunately it has too much structural rust to be saved and welded in roll cage sealed its fate.
Here is the only picture I took before I started stripping it.

If it's a genuine original spec Tech 1 sport, it would be far better to leave it totally original. There were very few of these when I had mine and that was yonks ago, so there's probably even less now.
I always prefered the tech 1 over the tech 2 and could never understand why the rarer car was worth so much less. Their day will come and the values will rocket for good clean original examples.

A 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero. It's fairly standard apart from a little remap to 275bhp, purely for fuel economy reasons ;)
I'm on the hunt for a cheapish project though. Not sure whether to get an early E30 or another golf, but I've got a bit of a hankering for something italian to dick about with.
How about you? Have you still got Sport?
