So, I've managed to get hold of a brand new 63L tank, at a very agreeable price... so before I get it fitted, what's best to paint it with, to save it from rot for as long as possible???

I could just hammerite it - done that with various panels on other crap cars and they lasted well, (though I never really owned them for more than a year after that process!!).

Is there a better option than hammerite? Preferably something brush on, to avoid too much mess!!!
Should it be primed first?

Don't need/want an amazing finish - just want it to last as long as possible!!!

I have a tool box I painted in Hammerite in 1994 and it's still as good today as it was then.

So i'd suggest this.

Modern hamerite is shite compared to the old stuff. I won't use it anymore, prefer to use teamac marine enamels instead.

Basically, don't use anything that will come off with petrol as your bound to spill some on it at some point. I just get them powder coated now and spray them with waxoil

Ha ha, a few options for me to check out there!!!

Any idea what powder coating should cost - sounds like a good option for a lazy man short on time!!!

The same place that does the epoxymastic, also does tank sealer, to coat the inside of the tank!!!

I'm assuming I'll need that, or something similar, to stop it rusting from the inside out???

Hadn't even considered the inside!!!

If you have spray equipment the above is the best option, POR15 is also good but it peels off if it has no key which is what the tank will be like unless its shotblasted first.

Hammerite not any more..
