Only source is from a used shaft.
Inner or outer joint?

CV joint failure is unusual on any E30 running anything like the standard power output.
Good second hand complete shaft would be the best solution, preferably one from the opposite side of a car to the one that has failed on yours.

It seems to be getting more common now, The lube in the joints and the boots that hold it in are now all over 20 years old.
One thing to check is that it is actually the joint and not play between the shaft and splines inner part of the joint.
Play between the shaft and joint is less of a problem.
Couple of the shafts I have hear have a little bit of play that is actually in the shaft splines.
It is possible to replace both inner and outer joints if you pop off the metal casing and re-stake it afterwards.
It should be possible to take the joints off a Z3 shaft and put them onto the E30 centre, which might make for a source of new joints now that GKN have stopped doing E30 shafts with new joints.
I believe because GKN are not producing new joints that all "new" E30 shafts are actually reconditioned.
