To the Mrs "I've sold the car youl be delighted to hear, to little Jim Jnr aged 4, he's paying me £1.50 out of his pocket money a week increasing by £1 every year older he gets, and says I cab drive it until he's 18, we've signed a contract of sale here you go"
Or failing that, buy another rusty turd , plonk it in the garden..
Here you go love, a new shed

So, I had a viewing on the car today and spent ages before hand cleaning every inch and making her look pretty.
Anyway they decided it wasn't for them and went on their way.
And I decided not to sell it and get the couple of bits of paint it needs done. So as soon as they left I went straight round to see Chris at the bodyshop and booked it in for some paint where needed.
I think today made me bond again with the car.
So I treated the old tub and made up new gear knob and fitted a chrome grille.
Couple of pics:

Managed to find some oem bumper rubbers to replace the front and rears which are currently painted diamond black.

See how it goes mate.
So, it's in the body shop now, all the filling where needed and priming has been done.
But the body shop dudes, no matter how hard they tried just couldn't match the paint. It's been re-sprayed before you see and metallic black is really hard to match apparently.
So looks like the whole car will need to be painted, which is a right pain as i just don't have the time to strip it properly at the moment.
Anyway, i've put it back in storage for a while whilst I get some projects done and some space for it.
Might even be next year now.....

Its either been painted the wrong shade or they are trying to fob you off with some cock and bull story!
Diamond black is one of the easiest colours to match and you don't even need to blend it. Literally can go edge to edge with it.

The paint shop I use has been in the village for 25 years and I know they boss very well, top bunch of bloke there. I think when it was painted last it must have been a DIY job or similar as there is some micro blistering also. Oh well, best to get it all done.

If they told you diamond black is hard to match then take your car else where.
Ive had various bits of paint done one my sport by a few different painters in different bodyshops and they have never had to blend it.
Most people who don't know the car think its still on its original paint.
My mate Adam who painted the car 8 years ago and who painted Simons 2dr C2 told me back then that is was an edge to edge colour when I was concerned about getting repairs done after the car was painted.

D shwartz can cause drama's if they are following bad work, a quality D/S paint contains green/blues it's sweet when new,
Didn't Si's B10 get painted and it didn't match ?

Some of The Bi turbo was painted at Hexagon and the match was fine but there was a defect in the paint which was rectified.
As I said in my first post, the prev paint may not have been to the correct mix/shade on jims turd.

Barry is right, looking at the car the previous paint seems a touch more grey than the new fresh DS which looks darker.

When I had mine done there was a choice of 3 different shades - one a bit more red, one more grey as you describe and then the original shade (which is the one I went for).jimbom30cab wrote:Barry is right, looking at the car the previous paint seems a touch more grey than the new fresh DS which looks darker.
Big news on selling the fleet! Did the wife finally find out how many you had?
Did you get the M52 sorted out in the end after the rolling road test?

Is the work abroad, Jimbo? Just put them into storage, it's not like they will go down in price.

It's a good idea mate but they will probably rust away and to be honest with the kids 5 and 4 now, they want so much more of your time than when they were babies.
Sad reality is less car work, more football practice and ballet lesson !!

A very good point, it was easy when they were babies/toddlers to get away with loads of garage time. Now my lad wants to play football all the time and i want to spend the time with them also.
