Basically what's happened is i brought an E30 0f a mate and now i'm havin some major problems
1) I believe the diffs gone(or something to do with the transmission in the back)
2) the car came with the x pack kit which makes it look similar to the E30 m3 but its gone to shit and will need Ԛ£1500 to sort at least.
the car is a 320 which then had a 2.5 conversion and then converted to a 2.7 or 2.8 anyway my friend has told me it would be easier to buy another e30 and transfer the engine than fix this one, also its an auto.
how hard can it be to swap engines and also cos its an auto can i buy a manual and still fit the engine?
Please help guys i dont wanna scrap my E30 but im fearing that i have to.
Thanks
I'm at a standstill guys and i need your help

What makes you think the diff has gone? Diff failure is unusual on an E30, although you appear to have been running the small case (weakest) diff from the 320, with a 2.8 engine. The 325 engined cars came with a slightly strionger medium case diff.
325 manual engine can fit into an auto OK, although you will need to retain the auto flywheel. The manual crank will have a spigot bearing in the end of it, but that shouldn't cause any problems.

By the sounds of it mate, depending how much you have spent want to spend, I'd do a transplant. You can get a manual box, I've got one you can buy ( send me an email if you want it), but you'd also need a manual fly wheel to replace the torque coverter. Or at least thats how I understand it. I'd go for it mate cos the 2.7's are wicked and pricy to build in the first place but you already have the expensive bit. You can split the old shell and sell loads of bits and bobs on ebay etc
Or sell the 2.7 and break the rest of the car and then use the mony to buy another. Depends how much money/time you want to spend on it and how badily you want a 2.7, I know there are a few people on here who would want a 2.7 lump.
Changing engines is not too complex if you have some way of hoisting it.

Read the OP again and see that I'm swapping the engine the wrong way around.
As widge says, auto engine will go in a manual, but you need a manual flywheel and a spigot bearing.

You sure its the diff
The way you describe it the car is stationary so I'm not sure why you would get a noise from the diff.
could it be the autobox/torque converter has been lunched?

i had the same problem in my old 732i, it turned out to be the gear box, puting in drive and it just went nowhere it just reved, but if i put it in reverse it went, (weird)
that tought me not to rev the bolox of the car then slam it in to drive, that litle stupid action cost me 300 to get the box recond. so i suspect it's your box and not your diff m8 as brianmooore said it is prity hard to destroy the diff. hth.
