My car grinds a lot over speed humps, have to go really slowly ie lower than 5mph.

Its only really the speed humps that are just in the middle, not all the way accross ones.

Car is lowered only around 35mm, but it did it when it had standard 316i suspension..

My old car which had IS suspension (I think about 25mm lower than standard??) never did it at all.

I also have a sump guard which seams to be the bit which is grinding - i can see lots of scratches on it!! (works then...)

So is it purely because the sump card is that couple of mm lower, so it scratches or is it because my shocks are getting on the warn side (car has 64k and their standard ones) will replace them soon anyway.

Does anyone know how strong thte sump guards are, people heard of them breaking or damaging the chassis rail to which it is bolted too?

Thanks..

my car is lowered 35 which more like 40 once it settles, looks like your shocks could be finished, when i lowered mine, i put some new shocks in aswell for convenience sake. Only scrapping i get is on the split bumps thats usually the middle of the exhaust.

Hmm, never had that prob. My last two e30's were lowered 40mm and never scraped. Id say shocks aswel. Only thing I can think of that would cause you to do that.

Yea I'm pretty sure its the shocks as well, oh well good excuse to upgrade to 51mm struts...and vented brakes...and braided hoses...

Hardly ever get scraping in mine & it's fairly low... Saying that though there's a b*****d of a hump in halfords carpark in Loughborough that attacked my car earlier! :x

my sport has new shocks no sump guard and on a 40/40 she was fine even 5 up.

Now it's 60/40 more like 60/60 i have to go a bit slower but it's fine apart from the humps u mention, the centre box gets a light scraping!
