play in steering wheel

Hi, i have a lot of play in my steering wheel on my 1990 325i sport, when i drive the car the steering is perfect no play when turning its just in the actual steering wheel itself even whens its parked up and turned off i can pull the steering to myself, its like the 22mm nut isnt tight but it is

Have you checked the steering linkage? Be careful!

Sounds like a screwed column to me if you're certain the 22mm nut is tight with the key in the ignition and the steering lock OFF...
