Hi, I often hear people mention the 3.64 / 3.73 lsd but mine is Medium case 3.46 - Any idea what it would originally have been fitted to ?

Maybe a 325i pre-facelift, i think it was standard on the M Tech 1 Sports.

List lifted from e30.de gives the 3.46 as being fitted to: 320iS, 320i up to 9/85, 323i after 9/84, 325i up tp 9/86, 325i cab. up to 9/86 and 325e after 12/86.
Doesn't say whether they are small or medium case.
