1989 318i M40..Gauge has never worked since I`ve had the car (about a month)
Wiki suggests earthing terminal 4 on plug C101 as a starting point, trouble is there`s no actual electrical terminal at No4.
Next step Wiki recommends is to check the brown plug. Can`t locate where it is, I know it`s under the intake manifold, but it`s pretty busy under there, there`s a couple of electrical connection points there but not sure if one of them connects to the brown plug, anyone got any suggestions?

That'll be the source of your problem then! Pin 4 has controlled the temp gauge since the E30 was made, so there's no chance that you have a rare E30 with the pin missing. Either a previous owner molested your loom, or you're counting the pins wrong.Rally200 wrote:Wiki suggests earthing terminal 4 on plug C101 as a starting point, trouble is there`s no actual electrical terminal at No4.

Or you are confusing the diagnostic socket with the C101.Grrrmachine wrote:That'll be the source of your problem then! Ahh..might've been looking at the diagnostic socket then.. was checking the circular screw top unit that's between the fuse box and servo unit. Guessing that's not the C101 plug?

C101 is right by it, but you have to remove the engine loom plug to access the pins in the socket.
