Morning,

On my throttle body, as per this picture from RealOEM;

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=13&fg=15

The nipple on the side is capped off, is this right?

Cheers in advance.

Yes Nick, if your car came with a cat., there would be a pipe coming from the nipple, the cap can split, causing air leaks

Yes it should be capped off?
Or yes there should be a pipe off it?, if a pipe, where should the pipe go to?

The Cap is 100% split, cannot see it on RealOEM.
Can you advise if it is on RealOEM, or where I can get a replacement?

On the M40/42 there should be a length of pipe on the nipple, about 8" long, which should have a plastic plug in the end of it. On the M20 engine, there is a small rubber cap fitted directly on the nipple.
It doesn't really matter how you block it off, as long as it is blocked off.

Correction: Wasn't 100% sure about the M42, so I've just looked at one. The rubber pipe on the M42 is only about an inch long, with a plastic plug in the end of it.

If you want to keep it exactly OEM, ask Cotswold BMW's parts department. That's what they are paid to do.
Otherwise, just stick a bit of rubber breather hose on it and block the end by whatever method you choose.

It's literally a piece of rubber hose with a bolt and a couple of jubilee clips on my car.

As far as i know that is OEM....

That's not OEM, but it'll do the job. The jubilee clips are extra over OEM.

No idea what the part numbers are, since I can't find them in the ETK either, but on the M42 it's a short piece (30mm?) of thick walled, ribbed 6mm rubber hose with a top hat shaped 6mm black plastic plug in the end of it.

There's no reason to think that BMW didn't change the spec. somewhere along the production run, so that hose could be a genuine alternative to what's on the one of mine I looked at, but I'm fairly sure BMW didn't use old bolts to block the tube.

From my forum browsings when doing the TB heater delete the whole M42 system was pretty cobbled together and varied for different regions and/or production dates.

Mine come from BMW and it's just a piece of rubber end tubing.
