Here is my uncle's first E30 which he had back in 1994. It was a 323i in sapphire blue and leather sport seats. While checking DVLA website to see if it was still around I came across something odd...
It was manufactured in 1984 however it seems it was registered in 05 May 1989. Why is this?
On the date gap, it could have been a NI turd. If a vehicle is transferred between the DVA (Northern Ireland) and DVLA (Mainland) the date of registration within the UK will reflect the date that the vehicle was registered with the DVLA and may not be its original date of first registration.
The Internet - It has proven to be worthless, and is nothing but a repository for perverts.
Or might of been some sort of Bmw or dealer demo non public road car or something meaning it wasn't registered on the road until sold to a customer or for whatever reason sat around at a dealer or in some sort of storage until sold, ring up Bmw or pop in to a dealer with the chassis number and reg , ask them for a print out of their records of it and what they know about the car they'l look it up
Seems like it's either been imported from NI or maybe sat at the dealership unsold for some time. Unfortunately I don't have the chassis number for it.
It had that plate all for the time they had the car so maybe wasn't illegal then?
I can't imagine that car was sitting in a dealership for anything more than 12-24 months. 1984-1989 suggests to me it's been brought in from outside the DVLA system: NI, South Africa, or maybe Jersey? (Question for Ross)
