Hi guys,
I'm going to fit some e30 m3 dials into my M52'd e30.
What are the issues in fitting them and how do I overcome them?
The clocks have an oil temperature gauge as opposed to the normal MPG....and I heard that this doesn't work?
Any way around this?
Thanks

I'm doing the same. You need to find somewhere to mount the oil temp sensor. When Danthe built my loom, I had him add the wires for the sensor so I will just add a pin to the body side of the c101 and run it to the back of the cluster. The cluster has a black 3 pin T connector on the back side of the tacho so will just run the wires from the c101 to this. (see pic) Standard spade terminals will work but I am trying to find the correct connector and pins for it.

I am using an s50 oil filter housing which I thought came with the provision I would need for it, but I didnt realize the hole I planned on using needs to be used for the m52 vanos oil feed instead. I spoke to Danthe about this and this is what he's recommended:

The other option is to get a boss welded somewhere else on the housing, I have the housing off my Alpina engine on my track car, it has an alloy top with boss for pressure sender, the temp sender is in the housing right in the flow of oil to the cooler which is probably the best place for it

use coding plug BMW part number 1377664. its from the e28 m5 that has a 6 cylinder signal and the 8k tach. you'll need to pull the chip out of the plastic housing and make it fit into an e30 coding plug housing, so not plug and play

good advice dooce, i was sure id have to get the dakota digital box for my clocks to work with my s50. will the chip fit into any e30 coding plug or just the m3 one? or are all the e30 coding plugs the same?
all the e30 coding plugs I have here are the physically the same, just have a different chip inside and a different part number on it. the e28 chip is a tiny bit narrower and quite a bit smaller overall and wont just slide into the e30 housing. the housing will need to be modified somehow, I havent done mine yet but the best bet is just to get ahold of one and put eyes on it, I'm sure you'll find a way make it work that you're happy with. I will post up what I do when I get around to doing it.
e30 coding plug on the left, e28 on the right

I've always fancied some M3 clocks - just for the neatly built in oil temp gauge!!!
I presume you cant just buy that gauge in parts and swap it out with the pointless mpg meter???

This is the connector you will need.

Also, just to double check Dooce, the cluster has an Oil Temp, not pressure.

Thanks for the link. Out of curiosity, how did you work out that's the one that fits? Yes, oil temp.Demlotcrew wrote:This is the connector you will need.

Its just a stock VDO three pin connector thats used on all VDO gauges that use spade connections, the one on the M3 chassis harness even has VDO written on it.
