HI All,
Perhaps I could have some thoughts on the following,
So far on my M10 316i i have replaced the following, viscous clutch, thermostat & Coolant. Flushed the system through
The car will warm up and hold temp, low revs driving will maintain temp,
High revs driving will stay at halfway temp and go to 3/4 when waiting in traffic,
Sustained high rev driving, ie cruising at 3000rpm on a dual carriageway will get hot and go to 3/4 necessitating reducing speed and switching the blower on full hot, far from ideal now that summer is here...
I Have a new rad cap turning up today, next step after that was going to be drilling a 2mm relief hole in the stat...
Thoughts/advice appreciated
Brgds/Chris

So,all is normal until you are stationary in traffic or giving it a few extra beans?
A avoid stopping in traffic
B drive it like Miss Daisy
I would think that the waterpump is a prime suspect, followed by a partly blocked radiator.

The rad is shagged. M10 rads are buggers for silting up - the fact that it cools off when you put the heater on confirms it. You may find on closer inspection that a lot of the cooling fins are missing.

Drilling the thermostat stops it working properly
As jagman says there is a good chance the radiator is partially blocked, also some M10 cars had a blanked out kidney grill which reduced the airflow to the radiator so thats worth investigating too

I'll give the rad a dose of cooling flush then guys,
Perhaps there will be a local firm that can re-core it for me,
Is there a tried and tested method of cleaning the sh*t out of these or should I not bother and just replace the rad?
Kidney grill is standard Dan: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... d1d60116c5
