Hi guys,
I'm looking at getting a donor car for my E30 320i upgrade. The best option I have at the moment is a well maintained E34 525i auto, 1760000 KM's on the clock. What spares/parts would I be able to salvage and use in my e30 upgrade. I have looked at the E30 wiki page and basically it shows Engine Swap and some steering parts, what about brake parts, electric window parts and other stuff that can be used?
Thanks for your help in advance.
E34 as a donor car for E30 upgrade

Having used an e34 525 as donor in the past, I think, except for the engine, not much else is of much use.

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...

E34 engine comes complete with the correct sump, so that's a big plus. You will need E36 M5x alloy mounting arms, but they're easy enough to come by (in the UK, at least.)
E34 engine wiring loom is less ideal that that from an E36, but is usable.
The M50 inlet manifold fouls the standard E30 servo in its standard position, and the E34 brake pull rod can be modified to fit an E30, if you go down the route of moving the servo towards the wing, rather than fitting a smaller diameter servo.
The universal joints of the E34 steering linkage can be used in one method of fitting a faster ratio steering rack to an E30.
Parts of the headlamps are the same as E30 ones, electric headlamp aim adjusters for an E34 fit an E30 with minor mods., and bits of wire, relays, bulbs, fuses, etc. are all useful additions to the spares stock.

Thanks for the info gents, it's very helpful. What i forget to mention is that it is an M20B25 motor in the E34 525i. I'm still in experienced with engine swaps and wanting to start with the M20B25 for a first swap. Probably a waste of time to some, but i'm taking baby steps first.

Still a worthwhile improvement over a B20, so worth doing.
Change the sump gasket while its out - they go brittle with age, and even if it wasn't leaking before, it may be after you've dragged it around on the floor a bit. Easy with the engine out, but a pig of a job with it in the car.
Don't forget to fit a spigot bearing in the middle of the auto crankshaft to suit your gearbox input shaft.
B20 flywheel and clutch will fit, as will exhaust manifold. Don't know if the inlet manifold causes problems or not.
If your B20 was a Motronic 1.3, the same as the E34, then you can swap the E30 engine loom on to it, otherwise similar problems will occur as with the M50 I thought we were discussing.

e34 m40/m43/m20/m21/m51/m50b20 got typ188 diff and after changing back cover fits to e30
Also oilpan and dipstic location is diferent in m20 e30 and e34 but its notbig deal. gearbox also need changing proopshaft but you can use yours. b20 got bit closer ratio on first gears.

I used an E34 M20B25 engine in my swap. Kepts the original 320i gearbox and diff, and sourced a 3.64 diff from a breaker's yard. Excellent combination.
