That one goes at the LH end of the dash, plugs into the door switches, two of the pins of the accessories sockets, and feeds the windows and roof. Should be fitted with a 5 pin blue relay.

I have 1 of these plugs in either door for the central locking, but where would these go? There is quite a length of wire to these so assuming it would be for boot and fuel flap locking?

Also I have this box connected to a single wire lambda
Is it essential to have this wired up? As I intend to change the exhaust anyway and the lambda doesn't look a gen 1!

Something very odd here! You say it's a '89 320i, but in the pic. above, I can see a truly ancient M20 with a block mounted distributor.
BMW don't use nasty single wire lambda sensors, so it isn't genuine, and that box doesn't look like it belongs there either. Any markings on it?

It's a g reg! Engine looks rough as it's been sitting for a loooooong time! I did have trouble getting the correct dizzy cap and arm! Maybe some1 has fitted a different engine in its time! I doubt it's one that slipped the net at BMW!
If it ain't gen it's coming out! Funny though as the lambda flange on exhaust looks gen but the rest!!!
There is a marking on the box 'BMW 320i' but it's been penciled on!
Just like to get this thing on the road after so long just looking at the thing!
Plans are for a bigger engine this year but very undecided on what!

The engine in your car should have the distributor mounted on the front end of the camshaft, right at the top front of the engine, and it is literally a 'distributor' only - just 'distributing' the HT to the appropriate spark plug. The engine in your pic. is a much earlier version of the engine, using a 'distributor' that not only distributes, but is also responsible for the initial generation and timing of the spark as well - inaccurate technology going back to (and belonging in) the 60's and 70's. Other parts of this engine, such as idle control and start enrichment will also be equally primitive.
