Yes, that's great. The fact that the horseshoe lifts is good. When it is in the upright position, lift the rear screen, prop it open with a piece of wood, or something, giving you easy access to the compartment.

Thanks again Gert,
I'm hoping to get this done this Saturday (weather permitting)?
I will need to drill x4 hole for the plate right?
Take both top arms off ensure they stay in the same position in terms of spline alignment (possibly mark
with a marker current position). Does the top arm simply just pull up and off? If so, then it just fixing plate into position, copper grease EVERYTHING METAL? Lol
Replace arms back into correct position with lots of grease and screw into place, give the rear screen section
plenty of up and down movement so the grease is well spread throughout the mechanism.
I'm really hoping here I don't have to tamper with the sync of the roof - otherwise I will be completely lost!
I hope I haven't missed anything any further help will be greatly appreciated guys!
Thanks, tripper

No, there is NO NEED to drill any holes!
As I mentioned above the plate fits over the main motor and the provides the pivot point - the bit that has sheared off. The screws will secure the plate in place, using existing fixing points - when you do it, you'll see what I mean, but you do not need to drill anything.
The levers and rods are also screwed into position, so they are easy to remove and refit (only remove at the top end, don't detach any of the rods.)
Grease up only the moving parts, otherwise you may get this on the roof fabric. Make sure everything is moving nice and freely and you should be fine.
Test the operation before fixing the cover.
You may need to manually move the top (chicken drumstick shaped) lever so that the rods fit and are correctly aligned for the roof sequence.
Let us know how you get on.
Oh, did the kit come with the brass ring, or did you use your existing one? I think Bally was after one of those..if you have a spare.

Should copper grease be used like this? I have seen arguments at work where copper grease has been used as a lubricant, "because it's not a lubricant, it's an anti-sieze compound" for using on nuts/bolts etc, to make disasembly easier.Gert_8 wrote:I used copper grease.

I have only applied it to the moving surfaces and pivot points. It is not used on any of the securing nut/bolts.

I have read that the way to do it is to remove two of the mounting bolts and fit the plate loosely to that end. Then remove the other two bolts and fit the other end. This stops the motor from dropping which would happen if you removed all four bolts at once.Gert_8 wrote:No, there is NO NEED to drill any holes!

The four bolts do secure into the motor, but removing all four at the same time won't drop the motor as it is held in place by a spring loaded/hinge type arrangement in the boot compartment, Ben.

Fair enough, Gert.
Just something I read in a fitting guide I found which I have now lost the link too.

So called 'white grease' would be the correct lubricant for this kind of mechanism.

Hi Bally (& zoners),
I did manage to replace the broken bolt with the new plate but with no avail..
One of the arms is not lifting and lowering the rear cabby roof screen.. and I cannot see why - or which arm should be performing this movement..?
Can anyone please help..?
Many thanks in advance, tripper

If the motor was working prior to you fitting the repair plate, it should be working now.....BenHar wrote:Put up some pictures of what you have done.

Yes I will put some pictures up.
Yes Gert your right the motor is working fine just as it should, but the lifting and lowering of the rear screen section just doesn't happen...?
Does anyone know what arm or cable lifts and lowers the rear screen section on a electric cabby roof?
Thanks, tripper

The rod that attaches to the top (chicken leg) shaped lever is the one that pushes the rear screen open. It connects to the frame (at the other end of the rod) via a swivel ball joint. Is this rod straight, and is it connected?

Hi Gert,
Please see picture below maybe you could shed some light on this..

If you see below I'm still having to lift the rear screen section. Because if I press the button the horseshoe section closes onto the screen section

I'm not convinced that "bar 2" in your images, should have a bend in it that is so pronounced. I'll be very surprised if it was only the motor pivot point that broke...
Let's begin with the roof closed. Are you saying that when you, try to open it, you have to raise the rear hoop manually, but once you have done this, the horseshoe opens automatically?
Does the roof start to retract into to storage compartment or not - not that this bit is important at the moment, I just wanted to know whether this part of the sequence worked.

Hi Gert,
Yes, (to your question). I am having to raise the rear hoop manually - but once I've done this the horseshoe opens automatically.
Yes, then the roof retracts as it should into compartment and finally closing horseshoe as it should.
Does this give you anything??
thanks Gert, I appreciate how difficult it really is, especially if you cannot witness in front of you what its actually doing??

Great.
Your problem is specific to the rear screen raising sequence, as the horseshoe opens and the roof retracts. To me, that suggests the rod (bar 1) is not being moved fully, which could be due to the fact that it is not straight. (is there any movement at all, or are you having to opening it all yourself, in other words, it's not just a case of it requiring a helping hand?).
Now, I would suggest the following to see what is actually happening with this mechanism.
Starting from the roof closed position, Trigger the roof to open (raising the rear screen as you are doing) and when the horseshoes gets to its fully open position, stop.
at this point, turn the engine off.
Now, disengage the main motor by dropping it - this is the one on the right hand side in the boot. (you may have to disengage the central motor that controls the horseshoe too - I can't remember, but if you do, it will need to be propped up as it will fall onto your rear screen).
This will release the opening and closing levers and rods, and give you free movement to see what the rods are doing when you raise and lower the rear screen.
You will have to see and work out whether the levers are set properly, i.e put the rear screen down and slowly lift it, keeping an eye on what the chicken leg and lower levers are doing.
Does the upper lever (chicken leg shaped) move and complete its prescribed arc? Also, look to see if this movement is actually enough to move/push "bar 1" to engage in the opening of the rear screen.
Don't worry about rengaging the motors - they are in a fixed position, and will just slot back into place.
