Clay cloth?

It's from a reputable seller and it's listed as a fine grade which will be the safest for your paint

It's clay on a cloth or mitt

No I would not say it is a direct replacement...a clay bar used properly still does a better job in my opinion and you can see what is coming off the car...

However they do work extremely well. I prefer the mitt to the cloth and have ended up using the farecla G3 clay mitt on most of the cars I do.

Does the mitt need a special lube?

No, just ensure that you keep the area you are working on as wet as possible...I use it with Bilt Hamber Auto Wash.
