Spring rates

Well squidgy!
I was running the Koni coilover springs (E36 Compact) on the front and Apex springs on the rear - I think about 340/380 or something. The sump was hitting the road on the dip after lodge corner at Oulton Park and far too much roll.
Swapped to 450 Faulkner springs on the front and back to the Koni rear springs, which are about 450 also I think. Front springs made the world of difference. Back still feels soft, but it's what I had lying around...
BC do custom rate barrel springs on their website. I mean to invest in a pair at around 550lb.
Edit: lots of people rate around 600/600+ but I do still use my car on the road so it seems a little severe. And that much change would really mean revalving the dampers too.

graham. if you cant find what you want off the shelf then try these
http://www.coilsprings.co.uk/
worth a try, a mate of mine had a set of springs made by them a while back & they seem to pretty well made.
they even do lightweight titanium "race" springs

[quote="Motorhole"]I reckon that will be bang on. They claim to valve their dampers to suit and pick matching pairs of dampers using test results. Let us know how they go

Yep gaz goldzzzzzzzMotorhole wrote:That's a true coilover rear, right?DanThe wrote:Ive changed my rears from 550lb down to 320lb and its made the car a hell of a lot better
Making the car softer sprung on the back has made a big difference, much more grip and less tail happy. The one thing I'm struggling with at the moment is getting enough neg camber on the rear, I've lowered it as much as I can without 'too much' inner arch surgery, the plan is to cut more inner arch out and lower a bit more as and when

I've got 600 or 650 on the front of mine (can't remember which), but it's running a m30 so weightier than the standard lump. I need to get the coilovers back to Gaz to get them revalved to suit the extra weight so I could probably get away with a softer spring then. Does work well at the moment though but there is always room for improvement!
Not fitted my rear coilovers yet as I want to tie the shock top mounts and diff mount into the rollcage first. Have the rear suspension pretty soft as it is now (b4 shock and KW -40mm spring) and really impressed with the grip and is so easy to catch and control when the rear steps out
