Guys, I think my idle valve is behaving sticky...

What I mean is on some cold start ups I can quite quickly take my foot off the gas, and on other occasions the revs are too low and it cuts out.

I usually tap the idle valve with a screwdriver, then start up is good and steady, without having to keep my foot on the gas.

Do you guys think it needs a clean? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks, tripper :)

Idle valves can stick, and can be flushed out with carb. cleaner, but check that the throttle position switch is behaving as it should every time.

Thanks Brianmooore,

Where would the throttle position switch be, and how would I know that it's behaving correctly?

To clean the idle valve, is it as simple as disconnecting and soaking it in carb cleaner for a few hours?

Thanks, tripper

Carb. cleaner comes in aerosol form, and you just blast it through the valve after removing it.
TPS is on the lower end of the throttle butterfly, and is accessed by removing the throttle body from the inlet manifold. Full instructions for testing it are in the wiki.
