A 272 duration is what most people recommend for mixed use, over camming the stock head with a 300+ duration is a poor band aid and makes for a bit of a crappy engine by modern standards.
Just FYI.

I fitted a Newman 270/270 and i find the idle very smooth and it's got a good peak in the rev band. Not a bad price also. UK supplier and make F1 cams apparently.

bit lumpy on idle (frpm cold is the worst) but once it comes in
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

im with screech a low comp stock b25 272 is plenty, with higher comp lump or 2.7 then 284/272 would be better

lightening the bottom end will literally transform the way the car drives with cheap bolt on parts from the M52 b25 and 28 engines.

So an ideal spec 2.5 would be early high comp Pistons, M52B25 crank, M52 B28 135mm rods, lightened fly, schrick 284/272, btb six branch, bbtb, motronic 1.3, alpina C2.5 chip.
Would that crack 200bhp.....?
Only one way to find out!

That spec is pretty cheap parts wise to assemble as the parts aren't in demand. Some headwork will help for top end BHP i think.
A 272/272 cam might be better suited to the c2 2.5 chip saying that i think alpina mapped a safety margin in on their fueling anyhow.
Powellys C2 2.7 fueling is good with a 284/272 cam

For 2.5 rebuild the above mentioned would be the way to go, unfortunately most people get tempted to just chuck in the 2.8 crank and stroker it.
Would it be wise to shorten the skirts on those high comp pistons?

Thanks Guys, I'm afraid i'm going the peasent route and will just get the Newman Cam and a six branch on the good old low comp engine. Theres no way i'd spend the kind of money to aim at 200 bhp as my mate who bought what was to be my donor car rolling roaded it last saterday and the little CA18 Nissan lump produced 280.4 bhp and a lovely linear torque curve so if i wanted to spend a fortune i'd go that route.
