Right, ive done just about everything to my engine, needs to be quicker. I have looked at doing a M20 2.5 conversion , apparantly most of the older engine numbers have rusted off anyway, (i cant insure it for another 10000 years so it wont be declared, bring on the hate) and also been told that a turbo on my original m40 1.6 is a good idea? What is best for me and cheapest? thanks

I'm struggling to understand what the purpose of this thread is.

Do you want tips on improving an M40, or advice on engine swaps, or info on how to turbo?

Whoever told you turbocharging your current engine will be cheap is almost as big of a fool as you are for not declaring an engine swap to your insurers.

Well how will they know If the numbers aren't on it? I bet there are loads of other people that are on here driving round with undeclared mods?

How do you tell the difference? Probably the SIX MASSIVE PIPES feeding the intake side of things, or SIX HT LEADS feeding the spark plugs, or SIX CYLINDER MANIFOLD hanging off the exhaust side.

People who work in car insurance know a little bit about cars, and if you have a crash you can be damn sure the investigator will know the difference between a weedy 4-pot M40 and a big old 2.5 M20.

As do most traffic cops. Get pulled over and you can surely be in trouble for no insurance.

Don”˜t see the point in not declaring mods - because you”˜re essentially giving the insurance company money for nothing! Free money! You certainly aint covered. At least if you”˜re declaring mods, although insurance may be more expensive, you”˜re (usually) getting what you pay for.

Can”˜t speak for others, but all my mods are declared for sure.

You have to be plain stupid not to declare mods. Ok so you won't show up on the cop car cameras as not having insurance but....

1. driving an e30 you are likely to get pulled by a cop interested in the car, happens all the time
2. you are effectively driving not insured so if you have an accident....you pay to fix your car, their car(s), legal expenses and persons injured/damages. I was claimed on for hydrotherapy once, wtf is that ??
3. do you get a criminal record also??

Don't think it's a criminal record, but you'll get royally bent over when you try to get insurance again.

See the question "Have you ever had insurance refused, cancelled etc?"

Insurers really don't like people who take the piss.

Here's an example

I was reversing out a supermarket car space recently in an estate car. Looking over my shoulder i spotted a car coming towards looking for a space, the driver i could easy see was looking down, probably at her phone. I stopped put foot on the brake and she drove right into the back of me.

I can't prove it but i am 100% certain she was looking down at her phone as i watched her drive into me.

City centre, cops were there in a few minutes.

Her bumper was damaged, so was mine.

Her claim was into the 10s of thousands for time off work, stress, loss of earnings, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy etc etc etc etc

It was a hire car i was in, with company insurance but in the end she was found at fault.

What was funny is she started F'ing and Blinding at me as i walked over to her car, kind of Jeremy Kyle language (it was in Plymouth), i said "are you ok love"....then she started crying her eyes out. She was fine......just upset.

Guess I should just, wait it out for a year or so then, the only thing I have at the moment is lowering springs 60/40 and 15" bbs, they aren't mods are they? As it is oem?

The BBS wheels are fine, but the springs definitely need declaring, especially with a 60mm drop, which will be adversely affecting the cars road holding.
