A bilstein B4 is equivalent to Boge turbo.

The B4 and boge turbo are he the equivalent to the post sept 88 M technic shock made by Boge.

The bilstein B6 is the equivilant to the pre sept 88 M technic shock made by Bilstein.

Thanks Barry, I have a pair of those knocking about they have a BM logo and a Bilstein logo on. Also the piston shaft is much thicker than all the other front shocks i have seen. The piston diameter is almost as thick as the shock diameter.

Can I assume they equate nearest to the B6 then ?

Thanks again.

Yes that's correct although the thick damper piston you can see is not actually the damper piston.

The B6's and B8's are inverted shocks so what you can see it actually the casing. If you undo the bottom cap the yellow lower casing comes off and you can then see the actual damper piston.

So when you buy new b6's (for tech 1) , do you get new bump stops with them ?

Ok cool

Il ring gsf and euros tomorrow see who gets best price for a set of 4 , none have both F+R on the sites

Gsf site only says fronts £58.50 , but only bodge rear £37

Euros site only lists rears for £38 (was £56), maybe/hopefully theyl quote fronts at that price too ?

Need discs and pads too , what's the best bet ? Presume Pagid over Eischer ? Or Look elsewhere ?

That's just what comes up on the sites when I put my reg in and go to suspension ? But doesn't say what exact ones they are ?

How much should they be ? Any other places to get prices from ?

Had a Google and they charge 80 odd to refurb them seems steep ? Worth just buying new , although mine are ok really no issues but have no idea how old they are

Bilstein at Leicester were charging £130+ for rebuilding a damper 8 years ago, this sends out a message really, "buy new because we dont want to know" unless its some specially valved gear of course.
Its not going to be any cheaper now, if you can buy B6 or B8's for under £150 per damper at the front your doing well IMO

Polsta if yours are the originals then they will be well shagged by now, you wont know until you pull them out of the strut and put some pressure on them without a spring connected

That's just what I did to test them. Only way is out the strut, I would give these a life expectancy of about 10 years.

All depends on how many miles you do and what kind of roads you drive on tbh. If it's a London car (lots of speed bumps) and used daily I would say less.

The inverted Bilsteins tend to last longer than conventional shock absorbers tbh although they can seize in old age and lack of use if the car lives outside.

Tbh I have no idea how old mine are, but im now moving onto suspension and a few other things

Here's a question , on this site under 325i 82-89 , why does it list 2 types of b6 ? 1 at £136 and 1 at £104 , both say cars with mtechnics

If just going by the pics is it just one has the blue protector but working out at 30 quid each ? Or are they different shocks ?

Try Aut o mac, you might get a better deal, the fronts have been around the £130 mark for years, but I seem to remember the rear more like £80
