I had the same problem and it was the rear subframe bushes.
Moredoor autos with small engines are cool - but my new m20b25 is awesome!

Take it you mean a difference of 30mm between each side? Is so make sure the springs are seated correctly on the pads.

You could try swapping the springs from side to side to see if the difference is caused by the spring length/strength.

Is it a convertible? just a thought the cab had a weight ballast on one side in the rear but i wouldn't think it will cause such a difference when removed

There is a tool which can be used to change the rear subframe bushes without removing subframe

It's not "ballast", it's a harmonic damper - that's why it's mounted on rubber bushes. It removes some of the vibrations caused by a roofless shell's inherent reduced stiffness.
If one rear beam bushes was as bad as to cause such a major difference in ride height, then I'd expect there to be more significant symptoms, such as a significant change of direction when lifting off the accelerator and hitting the brakes.

Measuring the corner weights of the car might be instructive.

I don't mean to patronise, but have you checked the measurements with the car parked in different locations?
Obviously the ground needs to be as level as possible when taking the measurement
