Thats a big bit of me! One day i'll get my finger out and buy one. But that looks to be one of the best ones that will come along. Double glazing!
My current 5 is in a million pieces and keeping me on my toes!

I've got one next week with the timing chain that has probably worn through the timing case - well, it's rattling like a bastard and there's an oil leak. 2+2+6 etc.
Luckily not a Vanos one so no water cooled alternator bollocks and doesn't look too horrific to do.

but as a road car brilliant for what they are, especially now we are heading down the 4 pot turbo route for alot of stuff. Should we be grateful the new audi S3 is a 5 pot?Jon_Bmw wrote:I can't think of a worse potential drift car.
No LSD
Long ratio gears
Heavy
Slow steering rack
air rear 'springs'
Setup to understeer
Etc etc
Agreed, as a road car at that price point there is nothing better in my opinion. It does so many things well but a drift car it is not!Simon13 wrote:but as a road car brilliant for what they are, especially now we are heading down the 4 pot turbo route for alot of stuff. We have a manual E39 540i saloon as a loan car at ML. Proper sleeper being an SE with 16's!
I also owned an auto E39 540i saloon M sport.
Both great but I don't think I preferred one over the other weirdly.

I thought the auto was good on those cars. Sport mode for when you're in a hurry. I used manual only really when joining the motorway down the slip roads when it late and quiet. Put it into 3rd and hold on tight !!!!!
I miss the torque, it's addictive.

Auto for me, esp when your in a big comfy barge.. it just seems like hard work swapping cogsDanThe wrote:I couldn't live with mine on a daily basis if it was a manual either. With such a big heavy lard arse of a car why would you want a manual box when the auto is so good?

I have just repatriated an 03 plate 530d shooting break from county Cork, bayjaysus . She is an original BMW GB turd with professional nav/TV /phone and a few other morsels. Amazingly the airz are chilly, the pixels legible , the PDC working and no warning lights !
Alas she collapses on her 4rse after several hours parked so it undoubtedly has airbag dramas but for Ca £650 I am not crying, too much. 38.7 mpg on 90p per litre diesel was rather pleasant as well

I had one pop on me on the way to the Guilford meet many moons ago. I had 20 mins of feeling like a dub scumbag. Extremely unpleasant and very embarrassing! I think they were around £120??
Sounds like a great buy at that money.

There was an invoice for a pair on mine, pretty sure it was under £200. All good and they get tested on a regular basis, had an engine and gearbox in the boot today and a full tank of 100 litres of LPG in the spare wheel well too

Dan, I was on holiday in south wales, with the kids, car packed full of stuff when one burst. It went with a right bang also.
Still drove the 200 miles back home with the arse on the bump stops, it did look a bit low !!!
