What is this ??

318 Baur 1987 M10.
For some reason the car was changed to a webber from injection before I got the car.

The car runs well and temperature wise is and was last summer very stable but I have very little heat coming through to the cabin.

A water hose from back of the head goes to the bottom of this and another comes out a bit higher up before going into the heater .

Any ideas as what this is please?

IIRC there was a recall back in the day for M10 engined cars if and only if the customer complained of poor heater output at idle / low speeds. The fix involved an electric pump , to speed up the coolant flow, as seen in your pic.

You could BUT the whole point of retrofitting the pump was to improve the efficiency of the heater.
Does the pump work ? I assume not. Have you investigated why ?

I don't think it works going by no sound and no vibration.
Ive found the in-put wires so I`ll have a test when its not pissing it down and daylight.
Its strange as my other m10 I owned had no issues of this nature.

Power is getting there.
Does anyone know if I can separate the motor from the pump and maybe sort the motor out?

If there are screws/nuts/bolts, then unscrew them.
If you do pull the motor apart, watch out for spring loaded carbon brushes getting caught up, and for any spring thrust washers.
What resistance can you measure across the motor terminals.

Ive had a look and its no continuity so its had it.

An add has been placed in the wanted section.

No continuity is (relatively) good. Dead short would indicate burnt out windings and loads of shorted turns.
Open circuit is likely to be a problem with the carbon brushes. Maybe just stuck?

Well it came off and all were in a right mess inside so replacement (long shot) or just by-pass it.
