Apart from the obvious 200cc what's the difference between 316 and 318 m40 engines? Is it just the pistons or is there anything else? Are the heads The same?

Reason for asking I'm breaking a 316. I gather there's little call for a 316 engine so wouldn't expect much for it and wondered if I'm better off keeping it fir spares. It has a new sump. Starter, dizzy, alternator are all worth keeping. Spare rocker cover to have a go at polishing or painting. And if heads are the same perhaps one day could have some work done on it.

Ta in advance .,

??? Cylinder head, throttle body, manifolds, injectors and all ancillaries are all identical. Only differences are the short engine, AFM and ECU.

Same block as well.

I think you're confusing M10 316 with M40 316i.
