Hi,

I am just wanted to know the interest in people willing to buy a copy of the e30 touring mtech 2 rear spoiler, it would be a fiber glass copy and I assume in the vicinity of £70 plus postage.

Note that I would not make more than 15-20 copies as I do not have the time or place to mess around with the manufacture.

P.S. if there is a better way than asking a general question like this please advise.

Yes, it will be copied from an original (I was unable to find any copies)

I have only seen 4 for sale in the passed few years, and the prices are a bit high. Hence the feeler :)

Lets hope that there are a few more people :) I will wait for two more weeks to see what happens. If there is more interest I just make a few copies. Otherwise I will see how much it would cost me to make them in singles rather than a batch.

Kind regards

I'm guessing these would not have any fixing clips like the originals? Any idea on the weight? The originals are quite heavy ...

I will see what happens regarding interest, and have a guy that can drive the items from me to London UK. I have no idea on the weight. I assume that the weight question has to do with shipping. Also I might be able to put the items on a bus and have it delivered for less but will need to check. I will weigh the original and advise.

Regarding fixing clips, I am sure I will be unable to create the channel required be able to use them. Maybe someone here has an idea on what would be the best way to approach this. I did speak to a guy that used silicon/glue (I assume polyurethane glue) and has not no issues.

I will get back with some details in the coming week or two.

Every now and again there are feelers for this - people want them, but no one will ever send off an original to have copies made!!!

Never sure if it's lack of commitment, (financial or otherwise), fear of not getting the original back, or just the fear of reducing the value of the original!!!

I've always said a good copy, (pref carbon), of the tailgate and spoiler as one piece, would be awesome!!!

Yeah I have read that there were thefts of these spoilers when they were being copied or not as it would seem. I would have bought a copy if I could have but due to the issues mentioned there are none.

I do not plan to make many copies as I don't have the time to mess around with the logistics of continued manufacture. For this reason I will be giving the item to a very good friend of mine who works fiberglass and hope to hell that it doesn't grow a pair of legs.

The first point is to make a cast, and have the spoiler made out of fiberglass as I am not able to make it in carbon. This can done but I have no idea how much time or the cost and if anyone would be willing to pay the amount.

Regarding shipping, I have no issue with sending by post if a buyer is willing to pay. Again as stated I have a person that drives from Serbia to the UK and back again every 2 weeks. Just need to figure out how to get the item from London to the rest of the UK.

Regarding the rest of Europe, I can see with sending by bus or by post.

First I need to figure if it is worth my time and capital to create the cast and so forth.

Update ASAP.

When you say cast I presume you mean the master mould from which to make copies?

What kind of mould would you want? There are two types, fibre glass only or a silicone rubber with a fibre glass case, I think the latter is probably better.

I would think that the simplest way would be fiberglass only. I will ask and see what is being offered and for what type of money.

Fibre glass only would cost about £150 and silicone type would be around £400.

The mold will be fiberglass only.

Great, that looks like 7-8 thus far.

I will get back to you guys with more details when I get around to getting the mold made. Before which I will see if there is a simple way of attaching a flat base to the car. Also compare the weight of the factory spoiler to the mt2 one.

I apologize in advance if there is any delay in my response, other responsibilities and what have you :)

Fixing clips? Any link/pics? I don't recal there being any clips on mine!

I'm nearly tempted by a copy but I already have an original one.

The only pics you can find are from the catalog diagram. There should be 6 clips

taking a closer look, the MT2 spoiler mounts almost the same way as the factory one, it is a little heaver but I believe that more adhesive should keep it in place.

@Jozi, how did you bond the spoiler?

The clips are embedded into the spoiler and push into the gutter at the top of the tailgate but will almost always break off when removed.

If the clips are incorporated into the spoiler, then for added security,
a touch of tiger seal should keep it from coming off ever again.

Been busy, bought the clips required for the spiller. The lip to which they attach to is thin and I will be unable to reproduce it in a copy.

it is, just need some more free time to get it done. it will needs to be glued onto the car as opposed to the factory type fitment i.e. clips and silicone.

More details as I come by them. Apologies for the drawn out processes.

Kind regards
