Hi, what is relay K5 for? and is the high speed fan relay K6 blue or orange?
The car is a poverty spec 1989 318i m50b25
The fuse box diagram on the wiki names k5 as windows up and another diagram I found online names it as '' unloader relay''.
Cheers,
JF

K5 (and K7) disconnect various electrical loads on the car while the starter motor is operating, for the duel purpose of making more power available for the starter motor, and to protect the items disconnected from damage caused by operating on too low a voltage.
K6 would normally be orange, but I believe there is a blue relay that is interchangeable.

Thanks Brian, its impressive all the things you know! Thanks for your help. I'm looking forward routing the wiring of my electric fan via the fuse box and am learning a few things along the way. Pictures of e30 fuse boxes on google image shows a variety of combination.
Check out this web site: http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu I find it useful to source the few parts I need.
Thanks,
JF

The different combinations you see on google images are because of local market regulations concerning foglights. US spec. cars need a different, blue (changeover) headlamp main beam relay, and orange front and rear foglamp relays.
UK spec. cars use an orange relay for the main beams, and black (double pole) relays for both foglight relays.
I'm familiar with the website you link to, but tend to use recycled wire from BMW looms, to get the correct (or close) colours.
P.S. The blue relay I've referred to in this post is a different relay to the one I referred to earlier. The one in this post has five pins, and can be found in a UK E30 at the LH side of the cabin, behind the glovebox (allows the windows and roof to operate with the doors open with ignition off). The one I referred to earlier is a darker blue, and has four pins. It's used as the oxygen sensor heater relay in BMW models that succeeded the E30, and possibly in very late E30s as well.
