Evening all,
Just been out for a quick drive in my 320 & about 5 miles from home the engine started to squeak & this coincided with the temp gauge going up.
I popped the bonnet but everything seemed to be spinning ok & the squeak seems to be coming from the back of the engine. My temp has always been a rock steady 1/4 but it went up to half when the squeak started.
It's too dark for me to look now but does anybody know what could be the source of the squeak?
Cheers
Jamie

Hi could this be a slack fan belt, but having said that how is your oil level

slacken all bolts slightly then lever the alternator leaving 10/15 mm slack, failing that make sure you are getting oil up to the camshaft
It was the fan belt, I changed it this morning & it's now quiet so hopefully it isn't the the water pump as I've just bought a M20b25 to go in so don't really want to spend any more on the current engine.
Mine has one of the alternators on an adjuster bolt that moves side to side as you turn the 19mm bolt on the front of it. So much easier than levering things about.
Thanks for the response guys
