Best rebuild threat in internet history with one off the best cars as well. I cannot overemphasize the importance of this threat (and others) to unexperienced hobby mechanics like me and how much it helped my knowlege and understanding. It allready helped me a lot with working on my own car. I stole the scotch wireloom tape :D Read it multiple times and I've never learned so much by reading something. It would be a great addition to my E30 book collection. winkeye

Agreed!

The op is a true gent as well. He tried (but failed) to explain/walk me through what was involved in setting up my LSD in my diff. He spent a lot of his own time via pm trying to help me. Very genours and helpful guy. Well deserving of the car and ovation IMO.

Me email alert thingy is going apeshit this evening, what has ye all back in here again? :D
Thank you to each and every one of you that has taken the time to leave a comment on this thread, both recently and going right back to the start. There was plently of times I had a pain in my arse heading out to the shed to work on this thing over the years, and it was great to be able to log on here and share with other like minded folk what I was at each week. Theres a fairly good chance I wouldn't have persevered and took the build to the extent I did were it not for peoples responses on-line.
So, thank you for that.

The car is currently doing what it was built for and is being flogged on a daily basis (sideways when the opportunity arises). She has a little over 10,000km on her now and to my constant amazement nothing major has shit itself or gone on fire, which is always nice.
I did/do intend to try and get a few more pictures up, and am trying to get some spare time to meet up with a photographer to take care of this. The work load has been a bit mental over the last few months on other peoples e30's, the upside of which is I actually own more of my M3 than Mastercard does now. :D

On the writing/printing of all this crap in book format, I've made a start on re-writing the whole thread out in a book format, but it'll probably be next year before that starts to take final shape. Will post up here if it ever comes to pass.
Currently working on an English translation of the ZF limited slip differential rebuild manual with some additions on modifying the e30 differential, so want to get that done first.

Will try to get more pic's up sooner rather than later,
Cheers,
Brian.

What happened to the James Clarke trophy that I seem to remember chipping in for? Haven't heard of it being awarded since the first year. Here's a worthy winner if ever there was one...

If you are going to restore, restore properly. You re doing what I did to mine. It takes time..and money but when that paint goes on you know its going to stay paint for a few years. Very nice job my man.

I've spent the entire day reading this thread and not doing any work at all..... all I can say is I've read many many restos... but this truly is one of the greatest. An absolutely staggeringly good read.

Well done x-works, what a minter you've created, and done properly might I add.! It looks amazing!!!

What an amazing thread. The car has had more work put into now than when it was actually built by BMW! :D

I want to read the book. I've been on this thread from the start and there are no words for how much of an epically good job you've done.

For one, I'd be willing to part with 100 quid for a proper glossy hardback and would happily take on-board some proofreading duties etc.

Maybe we can all pitch in with a commitment of what we're all willing to part with to get this started. i.e. a limited pre-sale before you take it to BMW to have it printed by them and put in the BMW shop etc. I'm pretty sure they'd be up for that. I remember going to the museum in the past and speaking with Klaus who did the same thing with an e28 5 series. He worked at the museum and was paid to do that. Albeit they might have issues with the mods.

3 days of road tax left before the old girl gets tucked away for winter. Decided to take her up into the mountains today and annoy some of the wildlife........

What a brilliant read, having gone through a 5 year resto on my old '73 Escort Mexico 20 odd years ago I know what it can do to you! Your car has turned out absolutely superb - you don't mind if I save your great pics to my M3 picture folder do you ? :D And bloody hell those wheels  The roads you have near you to play on look fantastic!
I'm going to go out into my garage now and spend some quality time with my car

This has to be one of the nicest M3's I have seen. I'm not usually fussed on them, but I'd love to own this particular one! :)

Is this most important document available elsewhere with the pictures still present and ideally in larger format, or in the proposed book format or other ? So much work went into not just the rebuild, but documenting it for others, seems a shame a key part of it is missing.

Absolutely monumental restoration. A real credit to you as the work that went in, and the finished article, are top notch. I wish you many an enjoyable mile in your car :-)
