I have just done an oil
Change on the z3 1.9 and when checking the level on the dipstick(never ran the engine) it was black as fook on the dipstick.

Is this a sign of a serious engine problem developing?

Did you do the oil filter before or after you changed the oil?

The oil filter housing holds oil and when you take the filter out black oil will drain to the sump.

I did the oil filter before i put the new oil in,i was just shocked that the brand new oil by the time it got into the sump was black again,i spoke to a chap at the garage and he did say change it agsin after 2000 miles?

Im also getting a very lumpy tickover, the revs on tickover are smooth but you can feel the lumpiness of the engine,iv changed the plugs thinking it was that but to no avail?

I have no air leaks etc,so im stumped

Ideally it would need to be put on a scanner for a definite answer as to the problem.

But yes the O2 sensor could cause the above faults.

It wouldn't come with one no, and removing and refitting the current one means it could get damaged.

Get the engine nice and warm before draining the oil?
