Christ. £3600, reserve not met.
They were quite a funky chariot but absolute scrap really. My Dad had one in 1986 (18 months old) and in 1988 one wing was starting to bubble through and the mainshaft bearing had gone resulting in the dreaded 4th gear gearbox rattle. 20'000 miles and it was in trouble. It was given a one way trip through Witney Car Auctions around 1989 with instructions to sell it so it never came back. It was a B plate one just like that.
I have a mate whose Mum bought one brand new in 1987, a D reg facelift Turbo in the all-white paint job. It's been in dry storage since around 1993 and it had new wings under warranty when it was 4 years old. It's still only done about 15'000 miles and it's absolutely mint.
But compare them to a 205GTi and you realise what shit they were.

Mate had a black one back in 2000. I remember it being slow and the gearbox used to wine like a spanel. Seem to remember they only ran low psi to preserve not only the weak engine but the gearbox.
As Andy said they were pretty shite compared to the other stuff you could buy.

My bro in law had a C plated black one. I ended up having to rebuild it after the gearbox started to shit itself but he carried on driving it. The debris from the box did it's worst on the oil pump and that was that. I got the rebuild done but he couldn't pay the parts bill. So I then had to pug up the front wings and sell it! I think he got about 2 & 6 back.
It really was a massive pile of shite!

A mate of mine had an all white facelift one in the mid 90's and had a sticker in the rear window saying "MG clitoris, takes some licking"!

I was following a red (they're quicker you know) one of these down the A3 in my Dolomite Sprint. He was trying to get away when suddenly I couldn't see! My screen was covered in oil. Slowed right down and saw the Metro smoking on the hard shoulder. The turbo seals must have blown.
It made me laugh anyway.
