Hi guys.

I've always had a soft spot for an E30 325i sport but when I had the chance to buy one I ended up buying an E46 M3. I guess BHP and refinements swayed me at the time but now I kind of regret it. The M3 is long gone but I have been told about a barn find e30 that's at what I believe to be a very good price through a friend of a friend. He also has a 2002 in similar condition that I might buy as well.

Now when I was researching E30 325's years ago I seem to recall that there were a lot going around that claimed to be Mtech sports which were in fact fakes? I also recall that there was a lot of mis-information about the sports. Is there anyway of confirming what it is exactly?

If I buy this car its for the sole purpose of buying it and selling it for a big profit. I would then like to buy a mint 325 m-sport coupe with the money I envisage making.

So, my questions:

What is this car? Its registered as a 1989 325i but is it a real sport?

is this the M-tec 1 body?

Are the wheels OE or aftermarket?

What would you say it is worth as it is? Its been off the road for a few years so it is not MOT'd. It comes with new discs pads and calipers and a new exhaust. The body is a bit rough with 3 dints in it and the drivers seat is worn.
mileage unkown as this time.

If I tidied it up and got it on the road what do you think it would be worth?

Looks like an early non kitted Motorsport. The nogaro paint, colour coded bumpers and extended leather are major clues. These are the least desirable of all the Motorsport variants and unless it has very nice mileage, not worth major spending on if resale is your game. IIRC these had the rare hydraulic roof which is more than likely not to work and they can be a MAJOR issue to fix.

I would put some standard 15" BBS on it (the council Azevs will fetch more than the BBS ) as the Azevs attract impoverished undesirables :) and alienate collector / restorer / paedo types.

I would give it a once over and if it has half a chance of getting a MOT without major expenditure, I would MOT it, give it a good clean and get it on a 10 day ebay auction with lots of pics and a detailed description. Assuming the mileage is not tragic , it should make 2k +

The main question here is how much is the car to start with ? before you go laying money out on it, if its been in a barn its going to need money spending on it prob min £500.00 to start with, there is no m-tec 1 body kit on this car that is standard.

The damage to the front wing and rear quarter is going to affect the price a lot too.

No it isn't, don't think I've ever seen an early Motorsport with a factory fitted kit, only nailed on years later.

Looks like it will frag well :)
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Just by looking at the state of the car from the pictures, I would run far and very fast.

The tech 1 kit was an option on these early motorsport cabrios, but was rarely fitted.

I relieved a scrapage scheme nagaro motorsport of its extended leather morsels 6 years ago when working at the dealer and that had the tech 1 kit from new on it.

The killer is when tech 2 kits are nailed on! :(

Thanks for the info guys. I was told about this car and being a sport i was picturing a tech 1 or 2 but My heart sank a bit when I saw it didn't resemble what I'd had in mind. I was going to pay £1000 but I'd want it for £500 max now I know what it is.
