If it was me I would turn the wheel 45* and re drill the hub, as they're 4 stud you can get away with redrilling another set of holes between the originals.

That's certainly one way to do it, though I imagine that re-tapping the threads into cast iron hubs would be tricky...

I think its quite smart actually. The car needs a paint job though.

Always liked the TR7.

From the TR2 all the way up to the TR6 they were great looking cars, although prone to rust away before your eyes, and break down on every outing. after BL took ownership it looks like they spent all of Friday afternoon designing the TR7 before putting it into production on Monday morning. It took them years to work out how to take the roof off, and secondhand was almost impossible to shift. Bit of a disaster all round really, but that was typical of all BL products of the era.

First car I ever 'drove' before getting my licence was a Triumph TR8 (the Rover V8-engined version of the TR7), with IIRC, an automatic gearbox, a car belonging to friends of my friend's parents.

They foolishly let me try it out, and I accidentally reversed it into their wall, fortunately not causing any damage. :o:

I always quite liked the wedge styling, though I gather the build quality left alot to be desired.

I love the TR5 thats my personal favourite. I would have one in a heartbeat if I could find one at a decent price.

ive got a delivery mileage 1978 TR7 in my lockup with the delivery ticket still on the front seat, never even been washed from new. its in mint nick and the build quality, rustproofing and wiring is horrific. ive been tempted to give it to the Triumph/leyland museum for an exhibit as i was given it for free in the 1990's. i think it looks good on BBS's but the bottletops just say "car worth nowt, what cheap 4 studs on ebay can i bid on that could replace the nasty steels and plastic trims". mines the same colour with red tartan 70's technicolour interior. its very slowly growing on me. of course if it was a TR5/6 it would be on the road now!

which came first the chicken or the egg. this is my TR7 interior, Leyland sports dept Tartan or the M-tech sports dept tartan???? maybe M sport copied a bit of TR??

Don't change the nasty steels with plastic trims, they are in keeping with the rest of the car!

That is spectacular ! In a way that only something really crap can be ! :D

We need a full write up on this turd and how it ended up where it is now with LOTS of pics !

I actually do not mind the convertibles but the coupes were definitely a bit Marmite.

My convertible was in a fetching shade of metallic BRG with beige tartan check :D

Looks like a great example, and what a coup, to be given it for nowt!!! 8O

I notice the door seal is already falling off, in the top right of the door frame. :snigger:

Tartan seats were big in the late '70s - loads of Vauxhalls (e.g., Chevettes, etc.) had them too.

your right, its so spectacularily crap its almost comically good-bad. It does nothing well and loads of things bad. Its the exact opporsite of an E30 in every respect. i have driven it a few times around the block and it just says 70's leyland all over. no wonder the E30 conquered the exec market in the 80's!!! my gran bought it new in 1978 and didnt like it/the salesman/price of powdered egg and shut it away and bought a sand beige Austin Allegro (not even the VDP) just the blue rinse version. hey presto she pops her clogs in 1998 and nobody wanted the forgotten wedge. more fool them if you get bored of pop up headlights youve never been a petrol head!

Never worked for me as a hardtop, convertible roof suited it much more.
Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring

I remember a mate of my dads had his newly bought TR5 delivered to our house when I was a kid, about 1992, it had recently been restored and looked like a new car to me, I could even fit in it :mad:
My old man used to take the pi55 out of him for how much he paid, I cant remember the figure but it was nowhere near the recent 20 bags price tag.
Unfortunately it got burnt to a crisp when his biscuit factory where he kept it was torched by local scum :(
