Mick, you cannot get a specific IP address of a person sending.

In simple terms, especially for you, you old Geordie git, when a user sends a a 'message' it goes to the 'users' IP provider. Thereafter it goes into the IP providers domain (cloud) and reappears with the BT/Virgin/whatever IP address and you cannot follow it back. So IP address banning is useless. Good idea but not practical.

The only prevention of duplicate accounts would be to have to pre-approve all forum accounts. It's not always ideal though.

i'm pretty sure if you had a 47 page build thread getting trolled by some no mark who then opens up numerous accounts just to send love letters via pm that you'd want something done about it if it was possible .
