Halfords paint prices aren't really that expensive TBH.

I know I've looked at quite a few places now online and Halfords are the cheapest at 6.50 for a 300 ml can

Primer colour makes a difference to the top coat shade also!

I used grey primer instead of the recommended white primer ... Result? A mix matched panel very annoying!

I recommend using Paints4U...

The Paints4U products are very good and have an oval spray nozzles that provide a very uniform spray... I have achieved great results... do lots of thin coats allowing the paint to dry or become tacky in between coats.

Not sure if they do a plastic primer but they should do...the extra money is worth it IMHO.

Cans aimed at the DIY market, such as the Halfords stuff, tend to contain less pigment per cc. than cans aimed at the professional market, so it's not necessarily a direct comparison of can size for the price.

I quite agree Brian I bought some paint from the a local motor panel place had to get it mixed as it was telecom grey, but the quality of thepaint was top notch. Expensive though, fourteen quid for 500 mm, but coverage was fantastic as was the finish and perfect match.

If you can find somebody who still paints with solvent based two pack isocynate paint I'd go for that.
