can a rubber heckspoiler be painted ok? if so do you need to use a special building primer?

Best to leave it as black rubber if it's nice from my experience. I did paint one with plastic primer to give it some flex and then satin black on top. My previous attempt ended up split and cracked though.

You will need to use plastic primer. You will also need to add flexible additive to the paint. Only 2k system is suitable. if you need to prime you will also have to add the flexible additive to the primer but to be honest if the spoiler needs primer you would be best not to spray as there will be too much paint build up. If its base and laquer finish only add the flexible additive to the clear coat. Did lots of these years ago and if done correctly they will not crack.

Any paint will crack spoiler rubber just to soft for paint.

I did some tests years ago on this and sprayed samples that I was able to bend right over in a U shape without cracking. Cannot therefore agree with the last post. Do agree that its not the best material for spraying but it can be done.
