Hello from Oregon, US of A.
Is there a DIY on removing an M42 from a 1991 318i sedan?
I'm pretty car/mechanic savvy, having restored cars and built hot rods, but need to rebuild the M42 in my daughter's car and was wondering if there was a DIY for removal. Looking for tips and suggestion from those who have done this particular job before.
Thank you very much. Gary

One thing Will has missed from the above is to remove the panel over the driver's knees (RH drive), remove the plug from the engine ECU, then feed the plug back through the bulkhead into the engine compartment, where it can join the rest of the engine loom, tied to the top of the engine.
Personally, I'd pull the gearbox out as well, still attached to the engine. Gear lever needs to be removed, then the rest of the linkage will just pull out.
